Reset.
Renew.
Release.
Ever feel like you've been pushed and pulled and stretched and squeezed into all different kinds of directions?
Yep. I can hear heads nodding.
My last entry, I wrote about living a life that thrives. I don't want to just live a day to day, go through the motions life.
I accepted my own challenge and boy have I been met with some major resistance! You know that usually happens right?
Set your mind to make a change and you can bet that something is going to try to prevent it from happening. Want to get up and work out every morning before you begin your day, you might find yourself battling with the alarm clock (or should I say snooze button?). Choosing healthy foods to feed your body, you get tempted with birthday cake or a extra cheesy piece of pizza.
Trying not to holler at your kids so much and talk things through more, you find your kid doing everything in their power to test your absolute last strand of patience.
My friends, we have to fight through this stuff if we really and truly want to thrive (I'm preaching to myself here!)!
Just in these past few weeks alone, after declaring I will not settle for the mundane, I have been fighting against this resistance.
Can I be honest? This is not easy but we knew it wouldn't be all perfect and rosy right?
Without whining, can I offer up to you that I am exhausted!
I can't do this all on my own. I need Jesus to walk me through this.
I am pushing the reset button.
Too much static and drama, fighting the resistance head on, all I can say is, WOWZA!
I hit the reset button.
Like stones smoothed by the rushing water. Let us be refined. |
A quiet day all alone (unless you count the drowsy old girl curled up on the chair tail tucked over her nose).
A cup of coffee, a quick trip to the store. A short visit with my folks. Sometimes you still need mom and dad. Even when your almost at the top of "that hill". Reassurance that you'll be OK and great big hugs.
I just needed a day for me.
To reset.
Reset my mind because I have the mind of Christ and I need to use it for it's intended purpose.
"Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:16
To renew my spirit and my heart. A refreshing restful soul quieting day.
To release my plans, my problems, my hopes, my fears, my hurts and tears. I release them to Jesus.
Because He cares for (you) me.
"Cast your cares on him because he cares for you". 1 Peter 5:7
A moment to just be. As Bonnie Gray would say, "As is.".
To look out at the barren trees spindly and brown. Knowing that they are going through a process just like me.
A renewal.
While we can't see what's going on, on the outside; Inwardly those barren branches are getting ready for new life.
Soon, the weather will break. Their will be nourishment and sun. Birds will return to make nests in their outstretched branches. Buds will form and more than likely snow will fall again but those buds, they are resistant (We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 2 Corinthians 4:8). They will prevail. For soon little shoots of green will spring forth and the tree will be renewed.
As I sit here facing the windows to my backyard, looking at the old barren walnut trees towering above our humble home; I wonder how many renewal cycles have these trees experienced?
How many will I experience?
It's important, this soul quiet time.
Preparing for the days ahead. Readying myself to meet the resistance and not let up until I push through.
A lukewarm cup of tea in my most favorite mug sits next to me as fingers fly over these keys.
I start to wonder if I should allow myself more days like this.
Days to ponder, wonder, pray and reset.
The Lord replied, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Exodus 33:14

Krista,
ReplyDeleteSo glad I linked up behind you at Holley's as I can relate to the need to hit "reset" and to "renew" with God...keep fighting the resistance with God's strength :-)
Reset, renew, release... So insightful and so necessary. I certainly need it again and again. Thank you for this, Krista.
