It's been a week. Busy. Exhausting. A week where nothing went as planned and I'm very much a creature of habit.

I struggled to find words to share and express Beloved. But then, It came to me as I was walking down the hall at work one day last week. I was drawn towards a big window after noticing it had started to snow. Not just the dainty  little wispy flakes but, what I like to call "big fat flakes"! It was coming down quickly and blanketing the ground with it's fluffy white presence. I stood and watched it fall for a moment. It made me smile. Snow always does that to me. I know a lot of people are sick of it. Ready for Spring. Nobody likes wet and cold (that I know of...) but there is something magical about snow. It has a soothing and peaceful quality. Soul quieting. Yes.  Best when enjoyed from a warm perch by a window with a steaming cup of warmth.

When I was a girl I would pitter pat into my parents bedroom of a snowy morning. My mama would pull back the covers on her side of the bed and let me climb in to snuggle while we listened to the radio for school closings. I would lay there and scrunch my eyes tight, fingers crossed, toes curled and holding my breath as the list was read. Only when I heard my school would I exhale and smile. I would snuggle down deeper under the blankets and the arms of my mama as we slept a little later.

Sometimes, we would lay under the big sliding glass window in our living room, watching the snow fall down upon us. It was always magical especially when the snow was of the "big fat flake" type. Those were the days when time would stand still.

We would bundle up and go outside to catch snowflakes on our coat sleeves. Mom would bring out our magnifying glass so we could examine our specimens we collected. I've always been amazed at the look of a snowflake up close like this. They weren't just little white polka dots as I had depicted in my early drawings. The intricacy of each tiny flake was (and is) a gift from God.

I absolutely love the look of a field that has just been covered in a fresh blanket of pure white snow. Unmarred and smooth. It makes me think of Isaiah 1:18 AMP Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool.

Snow is amazingly white. God says we shall be white AS snow! He loves us that much. He loves YOU that much. Beloved. Be loved in knowing this. Be loved nestled in your Father's arms.

  1. Krista, beautiful description of childhood memory!

I think of that verse in Isaiah, too, when we have new-fallen snow. Yes, we are loved!
