OH sleep where are you?!

My eyes are wide open but feel heavy. The clock on the dresser glows orange and the numbers silently scream at me 3:25 A.M. It mocks me.

I sigh. I flip. I flop. I close my eyes and will sleep to come.

The old house is quiet. My husband breathes deeply as he sleeps peacefully beside me. The dog is curled up in her bed, tail curled over her nose. She softly snores.

The furnace hums but it doesn't lull me back to sleep.

I turn to Jesus and ask "why can't I sleep? I have to get up in less than two hours Lord! Please help me relax and find slumber..."

"Write." he says

"What am I supposed to write about?" I ask.

"Insomnia." he says.

We go back and forth. I whine like a two year old that's missed her precious nap.

"Write." He says "I'll take care of your rest."

So, I pick up the notebook and pen I keep by the bed and the words begin to flow.

Remember....

As we move forward in this season of Lent (whether you follow this tradition or not), We draw near and close to the days leading up to Jesus painful and selfless act of love. Giving his life.

I wonder what it was really like sitting at the table with him during the last supper.

Certainly, it wasn't a lively dinner party. As He broke the bread and shared the cup with the disciples, I could imagine that they would've been hanging on his every last word.

How would you feel as He knelt to wash your feet? Would you feel worthy if you knew what He was preparing for?

All. For. You.

Put yourself in Peter's sandals for a moment...

Does a wave of nausea sweep over you each time you deny Jesus?

When the rooster crows and you realize that His prophecy came true... where do you find yourself?

Jesus still loved Peter. Even knowing, KNOWING that he was going to betray his brother and friend.

Take a moment to let that sink in.

God still loves you. No matter what you've said or done.

How you lost your patience and lost your cool when you found kid sized, dirty socks in several different places and none of them were the hamper.

When you got upset at the lady applying her makeup while trying to drive down the freeway (all the while swerving over the yellow line) and chose to honk and glare as you pull out and passed her.

When you got home from work and realize that the milk has expired (in the middle of preparing dinner) and you mutter not so nice things under your breath as you make a trip to the store that you didn't want to make.

He sees you. He knows who you are. He knows your heart.

Despite all of our shortcomings, He offers us these beautiful gifts of grace, mercy, and most of all love.

I will be glad and rejoice because of your constant love. You see my suffering; you know my trouble. Psalm 31:7 GNB

  1. Well said! Thanks for the reminder. We all need to remember the grace we've received--and not forget to give it, as well.

  4. I catch myself being an "ugly mother' when I rant about small misdemeanors and my intense frustration at not being heard. Thank you for echoing my cry for grace, mercy and love!. Thank you for the reminder that God loves me anyway, just as I love my children whether they are listening or not!!

  5. You are not alone Princess! I have "ugly mother" moments too (blush) and it's usually because I'm not being heard also! LOL must be a mom thing?
But we love them no matter what, just like the Father loves us! :)

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Blessings, Krista :)

  6. I know those insomnia filled hours, flipping by, as you so artfully describe. I could hear the flip as I read. I could feel the sandals that slipped from Peter's foot and I could see and sense every path you led us into in this post -- your heart. your world. your voice. love this, Krista. let those words flow. He is coming alive with every word your write. You with Jesus. Jesus in you.
