Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
 Hebrews 13:2 KJV

I want to tell you about my buddy Steven. He is a janitor where I work. He takes such care of making sure our bathrooms are clean, and our kitchen is spotless amongst other things.
Each day he goes up and down every isle on our floor picking up each waste basket from each cube. And do you know what? He does it ALL with a smile. A real genuine "I'm glad to be here" smile. He smiles and says hello to everyone and asks "How are you doing?" and I truly believe he cares. I've seen him loading up the big trash receptacle  and wheeling it to the freight elevator (still smiling), I've seen him cleaning the bathrooms at least twice a day and I know he is in there smiling!

I've gotten to know him pretty well the past year and in passing one day mentioned that my Dad had been in the hospital. He immediately said he would pray for him. Now, every day he asks how dad is.
Steven works two jobs that I know of. I'm not sure if it is by choice or if it is what he has to do to keep the lights on and food on the table for his family.
His smile radiates  the love of Jesus to everyone. some days I see him spending a little extra time chatting with folks that might need a little extra grace and mercy. I heard him telling someone about how wonderful it will be when we all get to Heaven. He is very soft spoken but he was bubbling over about "the streets will be made of  GOLD" It warmed my heart. I wanted to say  "You tell them Steven, make them curious about what you're so excited about!"

There are a lot of hurting people that bring their burdens to the workplace. It shows in the countenance, their words, and their actions. Whenever Steven shows up and shows them the love of Jesus, you see those burdens melt off of them even if it's just for a moment. I think that is awesome.

I've been working on a little project for Steven. I found out that his birthday is coming up next week. I want him to see how much we appreciate his smile and kindness. So, I've orchestrated a surprise birthday party for him. I asked for some help in pulling it all together and the outpouring has been amazing!
We have cupcakes and soda, 30 people have penned their best wishes to him on a giant birthday card, and we've taken up a collection to purchase him a gift card. We plan on catching him in between his cleaning duties to sing to him and present him with his card and treats.

I sincerely hope that we can show him our gratitude and be a blessing to him since he has been such a blessing to us each day.
It kind of makes me wonder if he is one of the angels God asks us to entertain....

If you've popped over here to see what this new blog is all about. I have to say to you first, thank you! and second please stop back. My site is still under construction. eventually I'll have more graphics, pictures etc...
