This Thanksgiving  there will be Turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy,  green bean casserole, the pecan and pumpkin pies. I'm sure we will do the time honored tradition of "what I am thankful for" and I'll be sitting there with sweaty palms and prickly neck just trying to figure out what in the world to say! I often wish that I could just say "pass" when it becomes my turn each year.
I have so many things to be thankful for and yet so many of those things I feel that I cannot share with this group that I call family. I flip my switch. The switch that makes me turn off my emotions so I do not cry when I hear my husband tell of his "thankfuls".
It's my turn now and I become robot like and say what is expected with a smile pasted on my face. I nervously rub my son's back as I go through my usual list: "Thankful that I am saved and on my way to heaven, thankful for my family my husband and my son, my job, my home,my friends, our church and that's it."
I feel the perspiration on my upper lip and try to breathe but the room is really warm from the fellowship of the family and the food that's been lovingly prepared by my mother and father in law.

As we draw near to the day when we gather and give thanks, I try to think of what I might say this time around. I AM thankful for many things.I just wish I felt comfortable enough to really share my heart.

I'm thankful  for the beat of my heart and the air that fills my lungs. For each new day that comes to pass, for my sweet little boy (who isn't so little anymore), for my husband and his comic relief, and the fact that we're still standing after a rough season of trial and tribulation, A mom and a dad that are still together after 47 years and a Dad that accepted Jesus as his savior 2 years ago, my best friend that I've known since brownie scouts, The new friends that I've made and the friendships that are blooming.

I'm thankful for the community of people that I've met already on this blogging journey i've just begun. I look forward to reading and writing many more stories and sharing my faith with you all!

Enjoy the time with your loved ones next week!

  1. Hi, Krista ~ I'm popping over from Bonnie's. Wow, I feel this situation with you--it is so frustrating to have a heart full of thankfulness specific to a particular journey, yet sense that its overflow might not be welcomed or understood. I'm praying for you that you have at least one chance this Thanksgiving to share something dear to you, and that it will be cherished by the recipient.
