As my family starts the winding down from summer break, I find myself looking back over our vacation photos.

One of the main things I wanted to do, outside of  relaxing by the pool and spending time with our friends, was visit a lighthouse or two.

One drizzly morning after a big breakfast, we went to check out the Currituck Lighthouse.  An amazing pillar of strength.
This lighthouse began construction in 1872 and was finally finished and ready to shine it's light for all of the ships in 1875.

If this strong tower could talk, can you imagine the stories it could tell?
Obviously, even back in 1875, the construction crew knew they had to use sturdy materials to withstand the storms that it would endure.

220 narrow steps to the very top. Each window, glass warped with age, you could look out across the Currituck sound. Out of the 3 guys that came along, two humored me and came along despite their fear of heights.

As we climbed higher and made our way out to the top, I was in awe of the view. Even though it was drizzly and a bit overcast, you could still see for miles. I could only imagine what it's like to navigate a ship and see the flashing beacon.

It's like walking with Jesus. If we keep our eyes fixed on Him, the light of the world, we will be able to make it through life's uncharted waters and heavy storms!

Have you heard the song My Lighthouse by Rend Collective? That song was in my head as we climbed those 220 steps. The lyrics are so affirming that He is our lighthouse but, my favorite verse is this:

"Fire before us, You're the brightest, You will lead us through the storms"

Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting for him, he thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross, and he is now seated at the right-hand side of God's throne.  Think of what he went through; how he put up with so much hatred from sinners! So do not let yourselves become discouraged and give up.  Hebrews 12:2-3 GNB

  1. So many lighthouses here in Maine, and you've given me another metaphor to heighten my enjoyment of them all!

  2. I've never visited a lighthouse, Krista - but it's on my list. So grateful for our strong tower - thanks for the encouragement to keep climbing closer to Him. Stopping by from #faithbarista.

  3. I love lighthouses, Krista! They always remind me, too, of Jesus leading us through the storms. He's got us! We saw one at Lake Superior this summer, but it wasn't nearly as tall as this one. It was on a high cliff though. Thank you for this beautiful reminder! Hugs!
