So tonight after I finished up my post for the write 31 days challenge, I pulled up my facebook account to see what I missed.  I came across an acquaintance I knew several years ago. I doubt she would remember me but, I remembered her as soon as I saw her beautiful face.

I got curious.

So, I did what most everyone else does and clicked on her picture.  Beautiful kids, beautiful home, hob nobbing, socialite-ing, running kids to their extra curriculars and looking fabulous every step of the way. Fancy vacations, parties,  pictures wearing yoga pants with her yoga buddies. I admit it was great seeing her and knowing she's doing great but the further I scrolled to look at her fabulous life, the more discontented I became. I started feeling very small and well, lacking in the good things department. I was about to break out with an all inclusive pity party when, I felt the familiar nudge.   I quickly left Facebook and continued to sulk. Then, I remembered something.  Out of all of the people logging into social media, posting pictures and status updates, we have to know that what we are seeing is the very surface of each others lives. We see the magic of crop and photoshop. We see the filters that people choose to put on their lives to make everyone else think they've got it all together. You know what? They don't!
Peace of mind makes the body healthy, but jealousy is like a cancer.
Proverbs 14:30 GNB

Take my family pictures for instance. We had an absolute ball having them taken (it helps when you're friends with the photographer and she's all kinds of fun too!- Thanks Evie!) But, what you didn't see was our car ride there.  You didn't see us harping on our son for having ants in his pants. You didn't see us getting in his case for forgetting to fix his hair.  You see the beautiful home behind us in some of the pics but what you may not know, it's a historic home turned into a museum. You see us laughing and smiling at each other but what you don't see is, we've had our share of pain and disappointments. It's taken a lot of hard work to get where we are today.

So, the next time you start scrolling through your social media and feeling less than perfect, know that we all have these moments. My advice to you (and me) is don't park your brain on it.  Don't stew and fester because it does no good.
They may have walked through some pretty tough times and maybe just maybe, they're in a season of goodness and mercy.

Humble yourselves then, under God's mighty hand, so that he will lift you up in his own good time.
1 Peter 5:6 GNB

  1. Thank you for the reminder! It isn't always easy to scroll and feel like you are the only one, when in fact chances are everyone gets you.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Marisa! It's so easy to fall into that comparison trap isn't it? Here's to knowing that nobody is perfect! ;)
      Be blessed!
